Billy Elliot and Neil Patrick Harris Shine at the Tonys

Surprising absolutely no one, Neil Patrick Harris brought down the house while emceeing the 63rd Annual Tony Awards in New York last night. Elton John’s Billy Elliot: The Musical walked away with 10 awards, by far the most of the night.
It ain't over 'til NPH sings!
Jerry Herman, the openly gay composer and lyricist of Broadway classics such as Hello, Dolly! and La Cage aux Folles, was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Tony Award by Angela Lansbury, who also went home with a trophy last night.
Though none of the out actors up for Tonys won in their categories, another highlight of the evening came when the three young actors who play Billy Elliot shared the Tony for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical and delivered an endearing awkward acceptance speech.
Harris had the audience in stitches throughout the show, but truly outdid himself with a closing number in which he sang that “this show could not be any gayer if Liza was named Mayor and Elton John took flight!” In related news, Harris’ ascent to the A-list continues, landing roles in two upcoming films.
