IN THE LIFE Airs “TIES THAT BIND” – Featuring Bishop Robinson, So-Called “Ex-Gay” Survivors and “Jihad for Love”

American Public Television’s IN THE LIFE recently broadcasted an episode entitled “TIES THAT BIND” in which they ran a segment called “A Conversation With Rabbi Sharon Kleinbaum and Bishop Gene Robinson.”  The segment marked the historic prayer made by Bishop Gene Robinson at the inauguration of President Barack Obama.  Episcopal Bishop Gene Robinson and Rabbi Sharon Kleinbaum, rabbi of New York’s largest LGBT synagogue discussede their spiritual journeys, faith, religion, and politics.

The episode also included a powerful segment called “IN GOD WE TRUSTED” which profiled so-called “ex-gay” survivors—some of whom founded these programs and now apologize for the harm these programs do.

The final segment – “Real to Reel: ‘A JIHAD FOR LOVE’” – had director Parvez Sharma share clips from his groundbreaking work and talks about gay and lesbian Muslims who strive to be true to their faith and themselves.

“TIES THAT BIND” is airing on American Public Television stations and can be viewed on-line.  For local airing schedules or to stream or download the podcast, go to www.inthelifetv.org.
